Hi Jim and all,
First, my apologies for any confusion I have made here regarding any
compatibility with Jim's games and Vista. Now, I shall explain how this
confusion came about just so everyone knows where I am coming from.
Generally speaking the DirectX 8 VB libs as well as the Visual Basic 6
runtime libs should be located in the end users
c:\Windows\System32
directory which is per a standard install.
So I got in to the habit of installing all of my games in a separate
folder like
c:\Program Files\Kitchensinc\Golf
c:\Program Files\Kitchensinc\Monopoly
c:\Program Files\Kitchensinc\Life
and so on. This made the Kitchens Inc folder allot neater, and I
couldn't stand seeing all of his game files just dumped into one
directory. I have a need on my computer to organise everything, and go
nuts when files are not organised and put in some kind of order, and I
always impose order on my files. Thus the separation between Jim's games
and files.
Anyway, to make a long story short since I did not install Winkit I did
not have all the necesary files for those games to run properly under
Vista, and and so copied the necessary files to my
c:\Windows\System32
directory which is really how this should be done which worked.
Jim is correct in that if you install Winkit first, and install
everything to one folder the games will work under Vista as Winkit
contains those missing files, but at the time I wrote my compatibility
chart I did not know this since I was in the habbit of not installing
it. Winkit under XP was a unnecessary package as far as I could see.
Though, now that I am made aware of my error I will of course update my
compatibility chart to reflect both styles of installation. Jim's
official install, and my customised one.
Cheers.
