Hi Jim, No, DirectSound can't but I believe DirectShow can. The thing to keep in mind with mp3 files instead of loading them like a game *.wav file you should stream them. DirectSound doesn't really have that kind of support. What I'd do if I were you is use FMOD Ex 4.28 which is a com library, and can easily be included in Visual Basic 6 apps. In fact, I just checked and theFMOD 4.28 SDK has a PlayStream example written in Visual Basic 6 for developers who want to play mp3s, oggs, etc as sound streams.
