No. Samurai shodown aka samurai spirits used to be the head of
weapons fighters. It originated them... but soul calibur is pretty
much the only mainstream weapons-based fighter. Samurai Shodown was a
sleeper hit.. you only loved it if you heard about it. lol.
Well, siegfried is only described as slow because his sword is so
huge... and that's a monster.
Wow. Your brother definitely had a shallow view... that's how I beat
every newbie I come across. Yes, you can pick it up... but if you
don't get the timing down right, and don't learn move ranges and hit
properties, you are going to be in trouble. Guard impacts especially
are important. Half the tournament matches you'll see involve a lot
of times when noone even attacks.. the players just try and maneuver
each other into different situations.

Just listened to the recording- it's well done and pretty much
rounds up the series.
Although, I'd say the head of weapon fighting games is actually
Samurai Spirits- but that's 2d.
Funny that Siegfried got classified as slow moving powerhouse- he's
actually a small guy heh- though yes, his fighting style is as described.
In Soul Blade, every character had a ten-hit combo just like Tekken,
kinda too bad they did away with that- although in truth, those
combos were mostly good for showing off only.
One thing with Soul Calibur is that it's actually relatively newbie
friendly- anyone can pick it up, figure out the buttons, and start
having fun without having to learn complicated joystick motions.
I remember how I demonstrated to my girl how in SC3, when fighting
at normal difficulty in story mode, one can actually win the game by
using just the pad and one button if one gets the timing down.
My elder brother once said that 'Soul series sucks cause it's all
about you hit me, I block, I hit you, you block, see who hits
first,' lol, I think that was a rather shelow view of the game- but
again, he could never beat me on it so there ya go.
