We generally use phrases like 'happy holidays' and 'year end event' instead of 'chrismas' on Alter Aeon. The reason why is simple: because people suck.
As a developer, it's simply easier to make events generic than deal with the various groups offended people. It takes thirty seconds to think up a generic name. It can take hours to calm down angry players and put out flamewars. It happens way, way more often than you might think.
