Hey,
I thought I would put together a list of what is missing on Open Solaris for
games.
* Good Sound Subsystem
Hopefully the speculation is true and OSS will be include in Solaris
Express. You can download and install OSS from the http://www.opensound.com
website. Unfortunately though, libraries currently delivered (such as libSDL)
are not built with OSS turned on.
* Joystick driver
I am currently looking at building a USB driver. Since USB joysticks come
under the USB HID specification, they have a nice standard interface that makes
a driver relatively easy to build. I will go into more detail in another post.
Do people use anything other than USB for joysticks today? I broke all of my
atari and amiga controllers long ago!
* Games Libraries
The most widely library that games use is libSDL. Luckily this currently is
supported on Solaris and works very well. There are many other libraries which
need to be ported. It would be nice to make a list of the missing and what game
requires them.
Anything more???
Doug
