New issue 1004 by [email protected]: KVM Live migration fails between
different debian kernels
https://code.google.com/p/ganeti/issues/detail?id=1004
Hi,
What software version are you running? Please provide the output of "gnt-
cluster --version", "gnt-cluster version", and "hspace --version".
root@yoda:~# gnt-cluster --version
gnt-cluster (ganeti v2.11.6) 2.11.6
root@yoda:~# gnt-cluster version
Software version: 2.11.6
Internode protocol: 2110000
Configuration format: 2110000
OS api version: 20
Export interface: 0
VCS version: (ganeti) version v2.11.6
root@yoda:~# hspace --version
hspace (ganeti) version v2.11.6
compiled with ghc 7.4
running on linux x86_64
root@yoda:~# head -1 /proc/drbd
version: 8.3.11 (api:88/proto:86-96)
root@yoda:~# uname -a
Linux yoda 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u3 x86_64 GNU/Linux
root@yoda:~# kvm --version
QEMU emulator version 1.1.2 (qemu-kvm-1.1.2+dfsg-6+deb7u5, Debian),
Copyright (c) 2003-2008 Fabrice Bellard
What distribution are you using?
Debian Wheezy
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create a cluster with the versions above
2. Add a node with the latest debian wheezy (resulting in using kernel
3.2.63-2+deb7u1 instead of 3.2.60-1+deb7u3)
3. Live migrate an instance from one node to the new one.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Instance should start on the target node.
Instead, it doesn't, effectively crashing it.
As a result, we can't upgrade our nodes since live migrating from old to
new won't work.
The issue seems to arise just after memory transfer.
Ganeti does not generate any error, the output is the exact same you would
have when live migration does succeed.
Please provide any additional information below.
All the software versions listed at the beginning are the exact same on the
up to date (as in, debian wheezy up-to-date) node I am trying to add.
Live migration works flawlessly when downgrading to the exact same kernel
version.
I couldn't find any relevant logs unfortunately
