Just for the record, this or a similar problem has been caused by Ganeti
using a wrong cabal version, if there were multiple versions available.
This was fixed in:

In Makefile use the cabal executable from configure time
Otherwise it might happen that the user has more than cabal executables
available and a wrong one is used.
