They don't say much about it, but they know about the issue. Here's a changelog entry related to it from sm5: [BA] smartctl: Added a warning message so that users of some IBM disks are warned to update their firmware. Note: we may want to add a command-line flag to disable the warning messages. I have done this in a general way, using regexp, so that we can add warnings about any type of disk that we wish... This is corrected with current microcode.
