Oliver,
I know your are not picking on me. And just for the record I didn't think much of Spike's punt, Caldwell or McGriff's throws into the stands, or Anthony's pump action shotgun routine from the SECCG. I understand your are dealing with 18 - 23 year old young men and it doesn't always work out the way I think it should. I also believe you need a little bit of thugery, not sure that is a word, to play great defense. Another post for another time. I didn't like it, but I do understand it, so, I am over it and I am moving on, which was the real point I was trying to make. But, I have to wonder why all this anger about it. Are we really as bad as Miami because Doe took two steps in a "showboating" style? Have we really become the manifestation of evil because of it? Where was all this anger last season when Brandon Spikes kicked the ball into the stands? Or, where was it a couple of years ago when Travis McGriff threw the ball in the stands. Doe made a boo boo. So, let's get over it. I would remind everyone that was the first defensive touchdown of the year. Leon, you were there, didn't you get sick of the cowbells? Well, the whole team was. Urban Meyer even mentioned it later in some post-game interview. Have we forgotten this was the first time the Gators have won in Starkeville since 1985? Wasn't that the Charlie Pell era? Randy, I'm not just trying to pick on you here, but your email seemed like a good place to bring it up. No, we don't need to have any repeats of it. But, yes, Urban Meyer will deal with it. Let's all get over it and congratulate the kid, after he does his stadium steps, of course... I believed it when I saw it live, I believed it when I saw the replay live, and I believe it now. For whatever reason you want to lay blame, IMMHO, the refs blew the call. I am grateful to the football gods for allowing the Gators this good fortune. I believe Doe's antics are indeed reminders of SCUM teams of the past and it makes my skin crawl to see one of my beloved Gators behave in this manner. Shane is not the only member of the "old school" philosophy, unfortunately I, too, am an analog man living a digital world when it comes to the proper decorum on a football field. I am also reminded that you can't always get what you want. And while I certainly think that Doe should and will be punished for his behavior, I truly believe that my opinion would not be greeted with universal acceptance anymore than anyone else's would. Therefore, I am more than willing to let Meyer make the call, since that what he gets paid for anyway. If Dustin had tucked that ball the way he is supposed to and waited until after he crossed the goal line to relax/show off, we wouldn't be having this conversation. We might be having one about the 15 yard penalty he might have gotten for celebrating, but his touchdown would not be in question. And I STILL maintain his "showboating" is the whole reason we're arguing about this three days after the game. Hope he learns from this. I'm glad that we got the call. I don't think that you can extrapolate that if it had been reversed that we would have been in danger of losing. My orange and blue glasses have lenses as thick as anyone's, but there's no way that I can conclude that we didn't get away with one in that instance. --- On Tue, 10/27/09, Oliver Barry <oli...@bobparks.com> wrote: Both of you are completely missing Jerry's point. There was no camera on the goal line. Therefore, the angle is suspect even with the "synched" shot of the ball apparently out of Doe's grasp as he crossed the goal line. No, the officials didn't have that technology available. Nor does it prove anything. As it is, Doe was credited with a touchdown. If that's bad, I'll volunteer to go run stadium steps with him. (yet another way to blow off steam along with bull dozing and blowing things up!)
