I think they just like Foley when he came up with the Zooker. He was desperate to get someone in there and it was very late.
To his credit Foley came up with a blockbuster choice when he had plenty of time to look for someone. By the same token, Tennessee would be wise to give up the rush to get a warm body and stay with Skippy. They can call him the interim coach for a year then get the guy they want next December. No one wants to go there right now only because it's too late. Recruiting is already over for this year. Potential assistant coaches are also going to be harder to come by. I think USC is still a premium job, on a par with Florida or Texas. It has all of the same recruiting, fan and weather advantages, and plays in a weaker conference. NCAA sanctions will pass (they didn't keep Alabama down for long) and that even gives a new coach a bit of breathing room to get their program established. USC could have done way better than Lame. I find it hard to believe that coaches are turning down Tenn. I mean, I hate Tenn, but think that they have a great fan base, 100,000 seat stadium, are in the SEC, ... Not as good as Florida, but probably one of the top 10 or 20 coaching jobs in the country. A far as coaching jobs - I would think that Florida and Texas would have to be #1. Great facilities, great fan bases, warm weather, and more high school talent in your back yard than you know what to do with. USC is not good because I think the NCAA is going to nail them. Some of the big schools up north are good - Ohio State, Michigan - but it is so cold in the winter - how do those people stand it? And the talent is not a plentiful. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [gatortalk] What was your favorite part of the Lane Kiffin fiasco?
