Here is a few thoughts that I have for what they are worth (perhaps not even $.02):
1. I can fully understand how and why he erupted. I really believe that Urban Meyer feels like some (most) of the players are family. When my family is hurt, I am defensive and it will upset me. I believe he acted out of his pain for his player's pain. 2. It is clear that some of the media took the quote out of context. The original quote was in context but it began to be perverted in a way it was not intended as it was reported by others. 3. I think it is clear that Deonte misspoke. I think he would have liked to have said a "regular" quarterback rather than "real." If he could have a do-over he would either have not said anything or might have said "regular." 4. I think the journalist might have wished that he could have a do-over and asked Deonte if that was really what he meant. Was he actually trying to say that Tim Tebow was not a real quarterback? I realize that in context that was clear. I know I have in the past asked people if they meant something the way it sounded because, in the group, there might be some that would not understand what the meant. 5. I think Urban Meyer might wish he had a do-over. I know I have on many occasions allowed my mouth to speak before my brain kicked in. I think this was one of those occasions. I would not be surprised if he has not called him privately and apologized. (I am also not sure that Urban would not be better served to publically apologize himself.) It actually would help his stress level if he could learn to handle himself in a more professional and productive way. I like the analogy of coaches working officials. There are ways that get positive results and ways that don't. You don't have to be a Bowden, you just have to be professional. For Urban to throw a temper tantrum and draw a line in the sand over something as minor as this is ridiculous. I'm will Helen on this for two reasons. First, UM3 needs to learn how to handle stress for his own health reasons. This is the opposite of the approach he should be taking. Second, take a lesson from mud. You get a little mud on a nice jacket and leave it be; it will dry up and flake off on its own. You try and clean it off immediately, and its gets worked into the fabric. The stain never goes away, and the jacket is ruined. Perceived bad press is like mud. Just leave it alone, and let it go away. Attack the press, and be prepared to be stained forever. To be frank, I didn't even think the press was that bad. I read the article (it was posted to GatorNews) and read "real quarterback" to mean traditional as opposed to hybrid. I never once thought that it was derogatory to Tebow or reflected poorly on Deonte. -Zeb -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us To unsubscribe from this group, send email to gatortalk+unsubscribegooglegroups.com or reply to this email with the words "REMOVE ME" as the subject. -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY!
