I think the entire SEC should carry them when playing Mississippi State.

Dang, that’s bad news.  And I was going to buy a vuvuzuela to take to sporting
events, weddings, funerals and bar mitzvahs.

UF prof: World Cup horn can cause hearing loss
by Nathan Crabbe     ( Gainesville SUN)

If you’re having trouble hearing as the World Cup winds down, the annoying horn
called the vuvuzela might be to blame.
University of audiology James Hall and two other researchers found that the
volume of the sound produced by a single vuvuzela topped 130 decibels. In a
paper published in the South African Medical Journal, the researchers warned
that multiple vuvuzelas could produce hearing loss. of Florida professor
“Until investigated further, it can only be assumed that if a single vuvuzela
emits a sound that is dangerously loud to those in at least a 2-metre radius,
the cumulative effect of numerous vuvuzelas, typically blown together for the
duration of a soccer match, may have an additive effect, putting spectators at
a
significant risk of noise-induced hearing loss,” the paper said.
The vuvuzela has provoked controversy during the World Cup, as television
viewers have complained that the noise is a distraction. But South Africa ,
host
of the international soccer competition, fought to keep the horn as an
important
part of its tradition — a fact that the researchers acknowledged in the paper.
“The vuvuzela has reached iconic status and should be kept as part of the South
African soccer culture, but measures to protect spectators’ hearing must be
considered of paramount importance,” the paper said.
