That's really sorry luck. A park ranger told us never to take a hike in the spring. High winds producing sandstorms can last all day and leave you trapped in the wilderness.

We took a bus from Las Vegas (a 600 mile round trip). When we finally arrived, they had a rare blizzard. I could not see 10 feet into the canyon. To make matters worse on that trip, Las Vegas gets an average rain fall of 4-6 inches per year. It got its annual rainfall the last week we were there. If the National Home Builders show had not been such a hit for Clara and I, the trip would have been an entire bust. I recommend it. The tour leader said at one point that the dam backs up water 182 miles and controls enough water to flood the entire State of Tennessee to a height of one foot of water.
