Scott and others,
As you point out, we could have won this. If we score on the first drive, that may have give us more confidence and the lead. This may be the kind of butt-whipping that motivates the team for the rest of the year. It may also be the kind that crushes our morale. Unfortunately, we have NO room for error the rest of the way. We have to turn it around. We also have to hope that F$U and USC continue to win except against us. We also need to start RUTS for the rest of the year. I think Brantley is a good quarterback, but we have to recognize that for the most part, he is just a freshman in experience. I will confess that I thought that he would be further along this year. I also confess that I have overestimated the strength of our offensive line. They have potential, but they need to have a heart-to-heart with each other and ratchet it up to a better level. Pouncey needs to really work on improving. I don't think he would be better at guard for us however. The snapping is still a little rough, but it was the missed blocks yesterday that bothered me. We COULD have won this game... it COULD have been MUCH closer. But we were inept in the red zone. We got into their red zone 5 times and came out with 6 points. That is atrocious! So where does that blame fall? Certainly the jump pass was boneheaded, Meyer took the blame going into the half. But all the other problems? We look out of sync. Brantley appears about .5 second SLOW on all his passes/reads. He hesitates a fraction of a second too long. It doesn't look smooth or fluid. Its herky jerky... Something is failing. All can be fixed. Play calling leaves something to be desired. Our O-line is supposed to be one of the greatest in the nation and they are underachieving. Coaching plays a huge part in all of the issues... they don't look prepared, they are not clicking, they are not reaching their potential-- yet! My concern is there is not enough time in the season to improve before the next Bama game... we control our destiny still, but to what end?
