Stephen you wouldn't think so but it was a mighty steep climb out once you
got in the doghouse.

I just don't buy the notion that Urban Meyer or any coach for that matter
has such a big ego that they would lose 5 games just to prove a point.

Let me be fair to Mike Gillislee, IMO he can be a serviceable SEC RB,
contribute to winning games, but will never be a feature #1 RB that gets the
majority of the carries and someone who the other team has to game plan for,
he is in the mold of Kestan Moore, solid but never great.

Interesting stats. One thing is Gillislee's carries tended to come late in
a game, that could attribute to his high per carry average. I am not saying
that Mike is an All American RB, just that we don't know because too many
people were touching the ball because they are either invested in the
program and/or might break a 70 yard run. Yes, Urban has won a lot of games
and championships, but like other coaches we know, he has a huge ego and
will prove his system works, even if it means 5 losses...

I mean, look at 2006, yes the defense was much better that year, but Urban
and crew took their spread offense and adapted it to Leak's capabilities.
We didn't do that this year.

I have theory about RB's, barring injury, a truly great RB will be great

any of the other great RB's in UF history, I can't think of many that were
great after 2-3 years, most were great or very, very good right away..I
believe that holds for any offensive system the RB might be in.

My gut tells me that this is right.

We all knew Emmitt was the real deal following his second game as a true
freshman.

We knew that Errict was not Emmitt, but was a worthy successor.

My brain looks up statistics.

UF Career Rushing Leader: Yards per Carry

min: 300 attempts: Eli Williams (6.4)
min: 400 attempts: Tony Green (5.8)

Well, that wasn't what I expected.

Let's look at notable Freshmen:

James Jones: 4.4
Neal Anderson: 5.2
Emmitt Smith: 5.9
Errict Rhett: 5.7

Interestingly, those were the best single year averages for either Errict or
Emmitt.

Gillislee yards per carry: 5.6

Hmm. My gut doesn't even think he is in the same sentence as the Gator
legends. My brain wonders why he didn't get more carries.
