The Front Runner Actually this might not seem like much news since plans to make a film version of Patricia Nell Warren's novel have been going on for so long and involved so many false starts and studios getting cold feet and stars backing out that someone is probably scripting a film based just on this.
But this time it seems like the project really has traction (not to mention a website at http://www.thefrontrunnermovie.com/) because Warren has recently bought back the rights to the film and has got a production company on the go now. And they seem to have benefitted from Brokeback because that has proven there is a space for a mainstream Hollywood film with a gay romance at its heart. On the negative side, Brokeback might prove to the exception that proves the rule and where the agonies of its protagonists were acceptable, the more upfront story of The Front Runner may not (for those unafraid of spoilers a synopsis of the whole story is on the website). On the positive side Brad Pitt has reportedly shown interest in acting in it!
