Hi, We are working on a 1 hour training film titled 'Aa Muskuraa' that aims to impart communication skills to counselor working with HIV/AIDS. The film is produced by The Humsafar Trust for JHU.
We are looking for actors to play the following part: *Priya*, 22-25 years, female, main protoganist of the film, a HIV/AIDS counselor in a small town. It is her journey from a shy hesitant just-on-the-job counselor to a confidemt woman of substance who can carry off her duties efficiently. *Sandhya*, 25-28 years, female, Priya’s elder sister who works as a clerk in a post office. She is about to get married and is very loving and caring towards her sister. *Aai*, 45-60 years, female, Priya’s mother, a small town middle class Maharashtraian woman, she is not literate and would be harsh sometime and very loving sometime. *Dr.Vidya*, 35-40 years, female, she is the District Supervisor. She is the senior doctor who advises Priya on all aspects related to her job. A knowledgeable, intelligent, compassionate woman who is disciplined and organized. *Jitta*, 40-45 years, male, Punjabi truck driver. He comes to the health clinic where Priya works, to get tested for HIV. He is unruly and bad tempered. *Shabnam*, 35-40 years, female, a commercial sex worker (prostitute). She is very loud and has an acidic tongue, but is good at heart. *Babu*, 30-35 years, male, loud-mouthed violent pimp. He is upset with health camps being organized in his area as it affects his business. *Rupa*, 18-21 years, female, a young commercial sex worker. Must have north eastern looks. She has been sold by her father and brought to the brothel by her uncle for sex work. She is an introvert. *Hitesh*, 22-25 years, male, also a counselor, Priya’s colleague. He is gay and is quite comfortable with his sexuality. He is gentle, affectionate and has a very positive attitude. *Salma*, 22-25 years, a transgender (male-to-female). Her original name is Salim but prefers to be addressed as Salma. Is sensitive. She wants to be a model and social worker. *Ponnamma*, 25-30 years, female, a migrant worker who is employed at a construction site. Ponnamma is from South India, illiterate and is HIV positive. She is also pregnant. *Murugaswamy*, 30-35 years, male, Ponnamma’s husband. He too is illiterate and a construction worker. He is under the influence of drugs. *Navin*, 22-25 years, male, a good looking young man. He is a photographer and loves to work on social issue themes. Priya and Navin develop a soft corner for each other.
