I think this is why a lot of people feel the newly proposed board is a step backwards. It is as if the knowledge accumulated by the old board which operated inside the community for the last couple of years is just thrown away.
This is my very least favorite topic -- I think that accepting the proposed initial GB is a tolerable tradeoff for the sake of actually having bylaws. I don't have any other defense of it. But there is no "old board". There was one interim GB meeting ever, attended by me, Dalibor Topic, Mark Reinhold, Simon Phipps, and Fabiane Nardon, resulting in plans to write the constitution (as it was then called, not bylaws). Which never actually got written. (I think it is safe to say that it didn't get done because doing so was a low priority at Sun at the time.) When Dalibor joined, and Simon left, Sun, some members were added, but this group never met or did anything before being sunsetted out of existence. My only GB-related activity for the past two years has been occasional prods to Mark Reinhold to someday restart this. -Doug
