Why not use the VPN client across the wireless network? If you want access to a remote site your secure from Laptop to remote location. If you need access to local resources put up a GNATBOX locally with external network or PSN pointed to the wireless net and protected network the local resources you want access to. Then choose the most cost effective / functional WAPs and WLAN cards out there that will work with the VPN client and your set. Don't use WEP at all and configure the WAP to not broadcast SSIDs and your running pretty secure, not perfect but it will work.

(Slightly OT) Group, This is only loosely Gnatbox, but employs some aspects so I thought I could ask - there has been useful information posted on the list before on many 'coupled' subjects......so here goes. Before I start, I have to say that I don't like this, but I am left with what looks pretty much little choice, so any useful input welcomed. Main site secured by GB1000's.....use VPN Client on laptops for 'roadwarriors'. We have a partnership with a company that has offices in another location and the above are using this as a tactical base for the operation in that part of the UK. The building is shared with other companies. They will not allow us to use their LAN (understandable) and as our guys are moved around within their open plan office space, cabling is a no-go. The CEO want's wireless which I am opposed to until better security is in place from Wireless technology [anyone for WPA?], but the pressure is on now and I am bound to try and find a solution. The idea is that they would still use the mobile VPN on a per Laptop (Windows XP BTW) basis from remote <---> LAN facilities, and whilst in the remote location use a Wireless Access Point +/- Router to do the Internet connectivity (as opposed to dial-up which is torturous). Simple enough in principle as it mimics what is commonly used for home networks in many instances.....but for a corporate...... What I am really hoping for is whether any of you guys out there have used any setup like this and if so, can anyone recommend any Wireless products that are as tight in the security sense as can currently be deployed??? -- Best Regards, Steve Leach Network Manager MI International Ltd Tel: +44 (0)1642 356 205 Fax: +44 (0)1642 356 229 [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.mi-int.com www.askalix.com DISCLAIMER Any opinions expressed in this e-mail are those of the individual and not necessarily of MI International Ltd.
