The compiler you are using, 3.1 was a release that was immediately superceeded by 3.2 because of errors. It is unsupported, as is Red Hat 7.1. Please put self-contained (ie cut and paste to compiler with no edits) sources in bug reports. I suggest you try again with 3.3, 3.4, or 4.0. Try compiling both as you did (which was how, by the way) and also with static links (-static). See if one fails, and the other works.
