Updating the MODIFY_EXPR patch in PR 22368 to check GIMPLE_MODIFY_STMT, I'm unable to reproduce this failure on x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, even with -m32. There has been at least one type clean-up patch to veclower, so I suspect this issue may have been resolved.
