The creation of temporary values that are never used is a waste of resources and, even when removed by the optimizer, represent an, admittedly minor, defect. This may be a minor point but it is NOT controversial. Also, it is not really a matter of style. Your lack of insight on this is somewhat disturbing. Marking the argument as INVALID is just plain wrong. It should be left open to provide a reference for patches that address this problem.
