Ouch. This is not really in line to what std=legacy does. Maybe using a separate Fortran-only option, something like -fbroken-common-blocks, would be better. On the other hand, it might be a good idea to warn if such stores are removed. I suspect that such a warning will catch many bugs in the existing codebase, if it is found in SPEC...
