Thanks. I've started a compilation of the trunk on GNU/Linux outputting x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc etc., and will then cross-compile a fairly complex program that uses the flag that caused trouble. Or, at least, will try. I normally use gcc-8-branch, not trunk. JW
