Yes, if you're using GNU Make 3.80 (released in 2002) then that's the problem,
and you should stop using that. It's 2026.

That commit and g:9274edef95ab1b74b82f4a9cf14baa9004e03c0d are needed to work
with GNU Make 3.80, but you should still stop using it.
