To play the Devil's advocate: One could argue that someone contributing to the GCC code under the GPL does not agree with the GFDL, and therefore the FSF can't live up to its promise (that iirc it makes in the copyright assignment) to keep the code under a free license. In practice, people have already contributed significants amount of documentation as comment because they disagree with the GFDL. Gr. Steven
