I've been beating my head against the wall over this for hours.
Does anybody know how to fix this error? I've googled it to death, it
turns up alot but I can't find a fix that works.

I build cross compilers all the time with 3.4 and have never run into this. I recently switched to 4.x.

I'm trying to build a cross compiler with gcc-4.1.2 (20061130) x86_64-linux to ppc-aix

During the target libiberty configure I get:

checking for library containing strerror... configure: error: Link tests
are not allowed after GCC_NO_EXECUTABLES.
make[1]: *** [configure-target-libiberty] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/rupp/ngnat/buildxppcaix'
make: *** [all] Error 2
