Answering http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/7454#note-4 at the same time: The server is only setup with STARTTLS. I use it with K9 on Android and Thunderbird on all platforms, both are setup woth STARTTLS on SMTP and IMAP. The logs and problems does indeed seem very similar. I have actually seen something similar within the Windows 8 “modern” Mail client.
