We / distros might like to consider shipping the icons produced by Tomaz Solc: http://www.tablix.org/~avian/blog/archives/2007/04/22/T22_41_14/ (And apporpriate mime associations to make .sch +.sym files associate with gschem, .pcb + .fp files pcb. .gbr gerbv etc..) This is assuming the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license is compatible with the packages (?) - but IANAL, so couldn't say.
