I don't think we should do anything to disallow them. If a user wants to edit a multi-line attribute (something that is slightly more unusual), then they should just edit them via Edit/Text...

What about converting the newlines into \n and editing the string in a single line? It should not be too much to change and at the same te be sufficient to support people using multi line attributes.
