The /'s are path specifiers used by gtk+'s automatic menu creation
(using GtkItemFactory*). Think of the /'s are signifying the top of
the path (root). They must be present for the automatic menu creation to
work correctly.

Agreed. Any changes in this area will be welcome after I get
this release out the door.

The next possible release window is something on Sunday.
Translation and maybe symbol additions/fixes/changes are okay now, but
code changes I would prefer to hold off of until I get this stubborn
release out the door. Thanks.
