eagle and protel both keep their libraries in databases. Both are a pain to use. Seems to me, the effort to maintain connection to the proper data base outweighs the potential benefits. Cadsoft flunked it big time with eagle. They use literally hundreds of databases. Each with different levels of internal hierarchy. You just never know where to look for a specific symbol. Common third party tools like grep or locate are no use in such an environment. With protelSE we had several instances of data base corruption in my former day job. This can hit you very hard. I like to see the unix file system as a very robust, very transparent data base. ---<(kaimartin)>--- -- Kai-Martin Knaak tel: +49-511-762-2895 Universität Hannover, Inst. für Quantenoptik fax: +49-511-762-2211 Welfengarten 1, 30167 Hannover http://www.iqo.uni-hannover.de GPG key: http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?search=Knaak+kmk&op=get _______________________________________________ geda-user mailing list geda-user@moria.seul.org http://www.seul.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/geda-user
