I have already some ideas how to fix it.

The icon view uses the GtkTreeView widget in an unusual way so there is
a high possibility that it triggers bugs that don't appear elsewhere.

It would be nice to know what really happens. Do you have any pointer to
technical description of the problem? I could not find anything nor 
reproduce it on openSUSE.
