Actually there are no real differences, as GEM5 and M5 are not really
distinct entities.  M5 is in the process of becoming GEM5 as Ruby gets
more fully integrated.  At any given point in time, the level of
support for x86 in M5 and in GEM5 is virtually identical, since it's
the same code.  (Arguably the only exception is if there's some x86
memory-system feature that's supported by the classic M5 memory system
but not by Ruby, or vice versa.)
