Fair enough and well-stated. What I had written
earlier was mostly tongue in cheek, but I agree with
you that Apple could have been just as bad as
Microsoft, especially if the controlled hardware. I
also choose Linux, in fact, the reason why I bought
the 8500 was I knew it would be a fast Linux box for
the $. The PowerPC chip is interesting and I didn't
know much about it, so this is a cheap way to learn
about it and Darwin as well.
