Has it occurred to anyone else that this sort of general I/O failure may be indicative of a mis-jumpered Master/Slave pair of drives? It just strikes me that we're adding a second drive to the system AND trying to install to it. The second drive might not be jumpered to Master/Slave with the first one. ...worth a look, anyway.
