The way to go about building this synergy is to engage the existing
HttpClient project in the Jakarta Commons right now.  Commons HttpClient
and Serf may be completely dissimilar at this stage (serf uses APR and
is written in C, and Commons HttpClient is in Java), but it might be
beneficial to get both communities working together. to create similar
products.

Serf and HttpClient would continue as separate implementations, but one
would try to synchronize feature-sets and releases.  This approach would
be similar to the way that Xerces is available in both Java and C++.
