Thanks for the response .... I am probably confusiing the issue with discussion regarding 'Java' ... this was on the assumption that, like earlier versions, java was the problems in starting a 64 bit version.

At Chris's advice I have just wandered into J801 (previously only working with J602). When J801 failed to start I immediately thought I had a java problem. I now realise that java may be irelevant to the problem and I will return to thrashing out the difficulties from another angle. If all else fails then back to J602-32 bit =:D

Java frontent (jwd) had been decommitted serveral years ago from J701.
You need to use J602 if you want to continue to use jwd.

I guess you can use options -d32 and -d64 to force java to
run as a 32 or 64 bit program.

jhs does not invole java either, and itself shows no visible output
to users.
