I understand Apache is a big organization and all projects operate independently and that's one of the reasons I chose to post here. I have little to no experience in the projects related to networking because we are asked to work on projects related to courses we take in the same semester. Keeping in mind my little exposure to this field and limited time I have to decide on topic I chose to post it here. I tried to research some larger projects on Apache but there existing code base is huge and will take much longer to build anything functional in 3-4 months. I particularly chose incubator mailing list as many podlings here are in very early stages of development and are actively looking for contributors, they already have a set roadmap (in most cases) and it's more likely that we can come up with something functional in 3-4 months. One important issue with faculties in my college is their requirement to have something deployable and functional by the end of the semester. This works in favor of both the podling as well as me and my group mates. Podlings have highly committed contributors for these 3-4 months with some of the contributors willing to continue even after this period. I think I mentioned GSOC and that might have mislead you to believe that I was pitching my ideas for GSOC but I am merely trying to get involved in Apache community and in the process find out if I'll be a good fit for any of the podlings or projects or even pitch in my own Idea for GSOC later down the line, when the community is aware of my skills and I am aware of the requirements of community (again a win-win) I tried to check out the incubator website for podlings working in networking field but It's hard to figure out from the short description available on websites or in many cases just proposal page. As far as my previous work is concerned I have done some projects in past but they are not really related to the projects I am looking for however I plan to present my work as and when some podling contacts me. To sum it up, My previous email was more like an advertisement (and an honest attempt to get involved in the community) to let the podlings know that there are 4 people looking out for a certain kind of work. And this reply is to elaborate my stand or rather my point of view.
