I moved my addons folder to /Users/brian/addons/ and
then went to menu Tools|Rebuild all Repository Catalogs and
got the error message "Could not install the local
repository catalog. Check that your configured HTTPCMD is
available."

Then I went back to Edit|Configure|External
Programs. I noticed that for HTTP Cmd the command looks
funny: "curl curl -o %O --stderr %L -f -s -S --retry %T %U".
Notice the double curl. I removed a curl and tried again to
install the JAL, successfully. And I now have fvj3 from
Pacman. A small funny thing happened. though. After fvj3
was "Done" installing, I immediately am told "There is a
newer version of the base library."

So it looks like there is still a Mac problem but I
can get around it. Thanks to all for help.
