Paradoxically, I think the best justification for going into Iraq is to
preserve the integrity of the United Nations. Sadam had clearly suborned our
"Allies", and completely evaded sanctions. For the UN to survive, it must have
credibility. Like it or not, the US provides that credibility.
If you are thinking that WMD are the only reason for invading Iraq, like the
popular media has been saying for years, that is not the case. WMD was one of
several reasons for invading. If you are saying that the US government is
supposed to be omniscient, the implied conclusion when WMD are used as the
reason we never should have invaded, I will let you figure out why that is
silly.
Demanding that the government be perfect, especially when hostile governments
are deliberately obfuscating information is unreasonable. Just like every
other human on the planet, we make decisions based on what we believe at the
time. We may not always be right, but we still need to make decisions.
