A _lot_ cheaper and better:
WRAP board (WRAP .2C board - 1 LAN, 2 miniPCI): $130.00
Atheros 5004 miniPCI radio card: ($38 - $75 depending on source)
minibox outdoor case: $50
12v 1.25a power source: $10
ethernet injector: $10
8 dbi omni antenna: $65
StarOS (linux based OS): $40
your time and trouble to order and assemble/configure: $???
Total cost: Approx $500.
Runs in 2.3-2.4GHz range, 4.9-6.1GHz range. 2.4GHz == 802.11b (DSSS),
and 802.11g (OFDM) and 5GHz range == 802.11a (OFDM).
Can talk to a radius server, serve as a hotspot, etc.
I'm also using the 3 LAN WRAP boards as firewalls/VPN (albeit not with StarOS).
StarOS has HotSpotZZ software installed. You do need to provide a
RADIUS server (like FreeRADIUS), but otherwise, easily doable. Heck
for $2700, I'd almost come do the radio part for you all the way from
down here in Panama.
