I've heard a lot of stuff like this, and you may well be right.
However.... In my particular neighborhood Comcast is the only game -
too far from a central switching station for DSL. I've been on cable
since AT&T and @home days, and I've always gotten quality service and
fair treatment except for the crappy DNS servers that Comcast  foists
upon us.

Since I have no need to run a server on my link in violation of the
usage agreement, I've been fat, dumb, and happy all these years.
