Subject: [MYREN ANNOUNCE-SEMINAR] Research seminar & opportunity in
Virtual/ 3D Workspaces: Open Cobalt Project
To: MYREN COMMUNITY <[email protected]>, Research &
Education Community <[email protected]>

Dear all,

We have been approached by professor and inventor Julian Lombardi of
Duke University in USA to participate in research relating to making
available to all people a free and open source platform for
constructing, accessing, and sharing virtual workspaces for research
and education. This initiative is called the Open Cobalt Project.

He will have a video conference seminar with us from USA to explain
the opportunities of research collaboration in this area as follows:

Location: MMU Cyberjaya, 3rd Floor, STC Meeting Room
Time: 9:00 am
Date: Tuesday, 24 August 2010

Open Cobalt has the potential to become the Mozilla/Netscape/Web
Browser of the 3D world. There are many research opportunities; here
are a just few ideas that I jotted down from a conference call with
him, Dr. Aik-Siong Koh (of FreeCAD fame) and our Dr. Ian Chai:

Making cobalt easy to install, like Skype, no fiddling with ports and firewalls.
Integrating video into the avatars -- face tracking?
Integrating shibboleth into Cobalt.
Registry for Open Cobalt worlds
3D search - using meta data?
Integrating a physics model into Cobalt
API standardization for interaction

We invite all who are interested to come to the video conference/
seminar. For more information, please contact me.

Thank you,

HAIRUL
