Subject: Feedback on Chapter 2
Hi Pieter, here's a second installment.
http://chandlerproject.org/pub/Product/GetStartedGuide/2-
SettingUpAccounts.html
1. Share with Chandler Hub
+ Make it clear in the title that we mean Chandler Hub sharing?
+ How about approaching this section just as simple instructions,
as opposed to walking through the UI. It seems like the user will
want to just sign up for an account, rather than launch the app,
open the accounts diaog and click on the sign-up link, etc...
+ Ordering. We should probably start with instructions re: how to
sign up for an account *and then* proceed to setting up accounts in
Chandler.
The Open Source Applications Foundation (OSAF) provides a free
hosting service called Chandler Hub that uses an installation of
our open source Chandler Server software, enabling users to share
calendars and other collections of information.
To set up Chandler to publish collections to Chandler Hub you must
first sign up for an account at [Sign-up URL].
You will receive an email from the Chandler Hub administrator.
Follow the link in the email to activate your account. <Should we
warn people that the email might end up in their SPAM folder?>
Once your account has been activated, you can set up Chandler with
a Chandler Hub sharing account.
1. Go to the xxx...
2. Select 'Chandler Hub Sharing' in the list of accounts on the left.
3. Fill in your User name and Password for your newly activated
Chandler Hub account.
4. Click the [Test] button to make sure Chandler can access your
account.
2. Email
Although it can send and receive email, Chandler Preview is not
intended
+ Awkward to lead off referring to Chandler with a pronoun?
Chandler Preview is not intended to replace your current email
application. However, you can send Chandler items via email,
download messages sent from other Chandlers and set up special IMAP
folders to drag emails from your email application into Chandler.
Incoming Email
To help get information into Chandler you can enter an email
account (either IMAP or POP) into the Incoming mail Account
Preferences.
?? To download messages sent from other Chandlers, set up an
incoming mail account (POP or IMAP).
click on the "Auto-configure" button and Chandler will query your
email server to discover the correct type, port number, and
security options.
Capitalize click? What's type? Do you mean protocol?
You can then use the "Apply settings" button to use these
configuration settings in your Chandler Account Preferences.
Click [Apply Settings].
<In general, can we begin instructions with action verbs?>
Click [Test...] to verify that Chandler can access your account. (I
think I used 'make sure' instead of verify in my first feedback
mail...sigh, the downside of doing this piece meal. Verify is
better methinks.)
===
Configuring Chandler Email Folders (for IMAP accounts)
Since Chandler Preview is not intended to be used as a primary
email client it will usually only get email messages from your
email account that have been sent to you by someone's Chandler
Desktop application. However, it is likely there may be other
messages that you receive that will have information you want to
get into Chandler.
+ I've been referring to them as Special Chandler IMAP Folders.
+ Perhaps we can shorten?
Click on [Configure] Chandler folders. to move messages from your
current mail application into Chandler. 3 IMAP folders will appear
in your mail application.
1. Chandler Events
2. Chandler Mail
3. Chandler Tasks
In your mail application, manually drag or set up filters to move
messages into these folders. In Chandler, messages downloaded from
the IMAP folders will appear in your Dashboard collection.
<SCREENSHOT?>
Notes:
* This does not work for POP accounts.
<Additional stuff...>
* IMAP folders may take up to 30 minutes to appear in your mail
application.
* IMAP folders are not kept in sync. Messages are downloaded once.
If you delete a message in Chandler, the message will not be
deleted from the folders in your mail account. If you delete a
message from the folders, the message will not be deleted in Chandler.
<Should we explain what each folder does in the folder list? e.g.
Messages added to Chandler Events will be parsed as events, etc.>
Outgoing Email
Outgoing Mail <for consistency?>
<Again, lead off with action verbs for instructions?>
Phew, 2 down.
Mimi :)
