I've got a win98 machine on my network at home which can quite happily use
its ethernet card at the same time as dialup (it runs as a proxy to let the
whole network use the internet)

One possibility is that appp.device is designed to run as the ppp client,
whereas in a pda <-> amiga link the pda is also a client, and thus thinks
it's connecting to a server (and so you have two clients trying to talk).
My knowledge of PPP is limited, so of course I could be wrong, but I had no
success getting my Psion 5 to link to my amiga through ppp :(
