Hello Sigal, One method would be to use the kgXref table inside of the older assemblies and along with the gene symbol or other identifier (not the UCSC transcript name).
Pre-hg18, the UCSC Genes track was called Known Genes. The processing is different (see the track descriptions for the methods for each), but the general idea is the same - summarize gene/transcript information for well characterized data. Hopefully this help, Jennifer --------------------------------- Jennifer Jackson UCSC Genome Informatics Group http://genome.ucsc.edu/ On 5/1/10 7:31 PM, Sigal Blay wrote: > For hg19, hg18, gene names can be found by looking for knownGene.name > at table hgFixed.transMapGeneUcscGenes.id . > > How can I find gene names for earlier data bases? > > Thanks for your help, > Sigal > > _______________________________________________ > Genome maillist - [email protected] > https://lists.soe.ucsc.edu/mailman/listinfo/genome _______________________________________________ Genome maillist - [email protected] https://lists.soe.ucsc.edu/mailman/listinfo/genome
