Hi, I've been doing some work with variableStep wiggle files and I have a question I haven't been able to answer by referring to the specs (such as http://genome.ucsc.edu/goldenPath/help/wiggle.html ). Specifically, I'm wondering if it is valid to have a value for the span parameter which is larger than the distance between any of the data points. For example, if the file included the declaration
variableStep chrom=chr2 span=5 would the following data be permissible? 300701 12.5 300704 20.1 300710 8.6 (Presumably, if it were, the 12.5 score would apply to bases 300701, 702, and 703, but it would be overridden by the 300704 20.1 line; so 704 - 708 would have score 20.1 ) I would greatly appreciate any clarification on this point.
