hi folks,

the current tree-drawing utility is quite good, about the best one left the
web. trees are becoming increasingly more important as more genomes come in.
http://genome-test.cse.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/phyloGif

it desparately needs an option to display in monospaced font (menlo better than
courier/anadale/monaco?) rather than than font it is doing now.

the reason for this is as follows: users need to put in much more text and data
into the tree and have it align character by character. a simple example where
the tree topology needs to be retained so visitor can interpret the data
properly: ie the T threonine in gorilla and orang was ancestral for a while,
whereas F phenylalanine in rhesus and baboon just affected old world monkeys.

tree drawing files...

((((((homSap_LSRELKEPP_Homo_sapiens__human,panTro_........._Pan_troglodytes__chimp
), gorGor_.T......._Gorilla_gorilla__gorilla
), ponAbe_.T......._Pongo_abelii__orangutan
),nomLeu_........._Nomascus_leucogenys__gibbon
),(macMul_....F...._Macaca_mulatta__rhesus
, papAnu_....F...._Papio_anubis__baboon
)), (_Callithrix_jacchus__marmoset,
saiBol_..K....L._Saimiri_boliviensis_squirrel_monkey));

thanks!
