I finally got me a verified and validated matched set of stage3 files and portage-latest files. The router had to be reset to factory settings several times but that's why braille users have styluses and know where the buttons and needed time for resets on routers happen to be. Partition creation went fine as did partition mounting and extraction of stage3 file and portage files. After that things did not go as expected so I copied the stage3 files and portage files elsewhere and will make a flash drive copy of them too before wiping the mount points and starting over. The good thing is I have more than one drive on this machine so I can wipe the partitions on that other drive and I'm back to bare iron for the next installation try.
